Pumps

How would we ever survive without a bike pump? Well, we wouldn't. As fundamental as the air in our tyres is to making a bike rideable, so is the means to put it there. And like everything else to do with cycling, there is a bewildering array of different typres of pumps, and valves and materials. The simple rules are as follows; you need to have a pump so that you can pump your tyres up (they go down naturally as well as when they have a puncture). You might want two pumps - the emergency little pump that you carry on your rides and the big stay-at-home pump that enables you to pump them up easily and hard before you start you journey. Finally spend as much as you can afford to get the best pump you can - there will be a difference.
