Road Tyres

Road tyres are designed for racing style bikes that use clincher rims as opposed to tubular tyres (the glued on ones). Because of the popularity of road bikes there is a large choice of tyres available and so you should be careful you select the best ones for your needs; lighter tyres might accelerate more quickly, but will be more likely to puncture. If you require a tyre for every day then choose a tyre with puncture protection built in, an average TPI(Threads Per Inch) and an average weight. If speed is more important then look for a low weight folding tyre with high TPI. If durability is your priority and speed is not so important look towards the puncture resistant tyres and consider going for a wider tyre, these will be less prone to punctures and offer a bit more comfort. Whilst you are unlikely to be able to change your tyres to suit the weather (it changes that often!) it might make sense to change to a triple compound or winter tyre when the summer is over as these tyres are made of a a softer compound on the cornering surface and will give better grip.
